Project Management:
This position allows the successful candidate develop and
improve project management skills. The position will require
project management, consultant management, and possibly
some construction management. It will also require interfacing
with other agencies and development of council/board and
other report documents.
Public Sector Experience: The selected candidate
will gain key public sector experience that can effectively
positioning the candidate to go after and obtain key, sought-after
public sector jobs.
Job Description:
Working under a senior engineer,
the Associate Pubic Works Engineer will assist a local municipality.
The principal duties will be federal grant facilitation,
assisting senior engineers in the planning, design, construction
and maintenance of public works projects such as streets,
parks, parking lots, drainage facilities, catch basins,
traffic signals, public buildings and facilities and water
systems and sanitary sewer systems.
Duties could include managing a small design staff, assisting
in planning and development of CIP projects and programs,
preparation of RFPs and the selection and management of
consultants and review of work product submitted by consultants.
Technical duties would include preparing preliminary cost
estimates of major public works projects; specifications,
reports, correspondence, plans, plats, petitions, diagrams,
profiles, cross-sections, and material and cost estimates
for engineering projects. Other duties would include coordinating
activities with regulatory branches of state and federal
government; preparing budget for engineering projects; ensures
proper inspection of public works construction projects;
designs elements for landscape and streetscape projects;
and other tasks and required.
Qualifications:
A Bachelors Degree from an accredited
college or university in civil engineering or a related engineering
field. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Strong
organizational skills with the ability to effectively handle
multiple projects. At least 2 to 3 years of professional experience
involving the design, construction and inspection of public
works projects. Registration as a professional civil engineer
is desired but not required.
